Lusso Super Roubaix knee warmers£22.99

Warming, sculpted autumn/winter kit

BikeRadar score4/5

Lusso have just celebrated 30 years in the bike business, having been started in the UK by ex pro John Harrison. Frustrated with not being able to find a comfortable pair of shorts, he decided to start making his own kit back in 1982, and lucky for us he did – these knee warmers are a treat to pull on come autumn.

With a soft Roubaix fleece lining, the Supers keep you toasty on colder autumn mornings but still wick sweat well, so we didn't feel the need to take them off on shorter rides once the morning sun and some pedalling action had got the blood flowing. All well and good, as they aren't the easiest to slip off over shoes.

However, there's still plenty of stretch to keep things comfortable as you ride. The Supers are cleverly cut to mimic the shape of a semi-bent knee joint, so they mould to your legs well, with no noticeable bunching.

We were a little worried about the seams running down the backs of the warmers, which aren't flat-locked. Similar joins on other products have caused painful chafing in the past, but we didn't experience any problems here.

A series of small gummy buttons adorns both the thigh and calf hems, keeping the Supers in place fine.

Gummy dots ensure the warmers stay in place, neither riding up your calf or slipping down your thigh:

The fleecy lining and effective grippers tick two important boxes

Four sizes are available (S, M, L and XL) but we'd caution you to try before you buy if possible, as our Small test sample fitted our small-framed female tester well. The warmers come in black only, and only one of the pair has reflective detailing – handy for distinguishing between left and right but not as reassuring on dark commutes.
