"Supremely reflective glove - for running. For cycling it's okay, but lacks warmth, weather-resistance and padding"

By Dan Joyce

It's the thin, unpadded and ungripped polyester palm of this glove that tells you that it's principally aimed at runners.

Well that, its name, and the description on the Illuminite website: "a benefit-rich new glove for the techie runner." However, cyclists might get something out of them. Like runners, cyclists will appreciate the towelling thumb, the neoprene cuff, and the fantastically reflective Illuminite panel that covers the back of the hand.

Saying this, cyclists need warmer gloves than runners due to windchill, so I had to use a glove liner during the chilly November test period. In addition, there's no padding at all, although the glove is stretchy enough to wear a summer mitt undereath. The upper has some shower resistance, but soon saturates in real rain.

While this glove may be marketed at cyclists as well as runners, what's needed is a cycling-specific glove with this excellent reflective outer. As it is, it's best for milder conditions or for cyclists who have no problems with hand discomfort.

Manufacturers description

The name says it all – the ultimate benefit-rich glove for the techie runner and outdoor aficionado. The new aerodynamic pattern designs add flare and style!
