The Katos are stiff enough for long rides, and comfortable enough to walk in too.

"Easy on/off Velcro strap leisure shoe for short rides on mixed terrain"

By Cara Coolbaugh

Nike's Katos are available with either three Velcro straps or with laces (£54.99). Designed specifically for women, there's good arch support and the toe box is roomy with a narrower heel cup. Although the cut round the ankle is very low at the back for good ankle movement, the collar comes up quite high near the tongue. It's stiff and only slightly padded so may irritate the front of the foot.

Quality is excellent - the Velcro straps are securely stitched and a reinforced toe area adds to their life span. The sole has reasonable tread for any off-road forays and past models have proven hard wearing too. They're amply stiff for a few hours riding but after a long day I felt some tenderness underfoot. That said, they work well for leisure cyclists - they're easy to walk in and styling is not overly bikey. Cleat clearance is okay though it could certainly be better.
