Bellwether Axiom bib shorts

Comfy bibs at shorts pricing

BikeRadar score3.5/5

The Axioms are mid-range bib shorts from US-based Bellwether. Featuring a nicely shaped chamois and a comfortable fit, they have plenty to offer for the price.

A common complaint with cheaper spandex garments is the lack of support. The Axioms are a good fit and we experienced no bagginess in the cut of the material. On the bike, we wished the bib's crotch area was a little more supportive and secure, but we were still comfortable on long rides.

Using a dual material construction, across the panels, the Axioms aren't heavily reliant on the materials stretch to create a good fit. This is a good thing because the less the materials are stressed, generally the better the durability. Keeping the legs snugly in place are non-obtrusive silicone grippers.

The four-way stretch, 3D chamois is a quality item, with a generous amount of padding and soft feel to it. The chamois is securely stitched in place and with no awkward seams to cause discomfort.

The heavily ventilated bib straps helped us stay cool and a wide placement gave no pinpoint pressure on our shoulders. A low bib cut in the front was great to avoid excess heat and for easier pit-stops.

The Bellwether Axioms sit among some fierce price-point competition and do well – we’ll happily continue to use ours along with our more expensive bibs.
