Crank Brothers Quattro SL | $109.38
BikeRadar verdict
"Easy to use pedal offering good value..."
With a double-sided pedal body and plenty of free float, these pedals are easy to use and kind to your knees.
Crank Brothers has taken its much loved Egg Beater mountain bike pedal and adopted it for road use to create the Quattro. It’s essentially an Egg Beater mechanism with a platform.
This offers four entry points on a dual-sided pedal, and with a little practice they are extremely simple to use.
The release angle can be set to either 15 or 20 degrees depending on which way round the cleats are fitted to your shoes.
The cleats are set in a plastic surround to protect them off the bike and make walking easier.
The cleat-surround’s U shape also helps to guide the cleat to the pedal for ease of entry.
Once you’re clipped into them, these pedals feel solid and comfortable while at the same time being kind to your joints with their non-centring float.
If you like the look and the idea but want something a bit lighter, there’s a titanium-axle version too, but it’ll cost you.
