Ritchey WCS V4 | $269.95
BikeRadar verdict
"Great SPD pedal performance disguised as bike jewellery"
Very light and very bling with a cast titanium body, these are a racy weight-weenie's pedalust - although the axle is mere chromoly because it's stiffer and more reliable than titanium. The Shimano-esque Ritchey cleats offer the same degree of feel and float as the more readily available Big S cleats, which unsurprisingly work fine too. Outer bearings are needle and ball while the inner bearing is a simple bushing which was fine during testing, but its longevity could be an issue on gritty British trail conditions. Shoes click in with a goodly clunk and hold on rather well, chunky Shimano in their action, and as such do get a bit overawed with über-mud. Being so svelte there is a very slight amount of flex, but we like to think of it more as passive suspension, and it's not going to relegate you to second place. Freaking pricey though.
