"Lots of plum-saving science, but the square shape won't suit all"

By Guy Kesteven

Specialized has done more than anyone to highlight and combat the potential problems of interrupted blood flow, and the crotch saving crusade starts here with the basic Body Geometry (BG) 2. Broad profile and deep padding immediately marks it out as suitable for more upright seated, short mileage usage. Even then the squared edges meant it immediately divided opinion, with several riders finding it uncomfortable from the start.

Those that liked it found the broad, soft nose comfy, even when balanced on the tip for climbs, and the whole 'Elastic' shell is extremely flexible, which adds a noticeable amount of shock absorption. The deep centre V-Groove reduces pressure and adds a refreshing air-con breeze under your base, too. Plastic scuff guards add a bit of leaning on walls protection, but the back end is still crash vulnerable.

The V-notch at the back can also snag shorts sometimes if you're right off the back. There's plenty of length adjustment in the hollow cromo rails though, and if you manage to get on with the shape it's reasonably priced and weighted for its comfort and is also available in a women's version. We definitely recommend you try one before you buy, though.
