Continental Contact Security | $39.76
BikeRadar verdict
"A versatile tyre with remarkable puncture resistant properties"
The Contact Security is Conti's answer to Schwalbe's Marathon Plus. There's a thick, springy layer of rubber under the tread that even a drawing pin won't penetrate.
Rolling performance was significantly lower than the Schwalbe, due (perhaps entirely?) to the greater width and the much lower pressure. There's a similar depth of tread, whose pattern is apparently 'based on an animal's paw', with a centre rolling strip. The steel-beaded sidewalls have reflective strips and a patterned track that will serve for a dynamo. They're gumwall, too, so like the Schwalbe are relatively tough.
It's available only in fairly chunky sizes, so will fit best on hybrids and tourers pressed into service as utility bikes rather than road bikes. Comfort is good thanks to the large airpocket that the tyre's greater width provides, and unlike many similar tyres they would be okay for use on rough tracks. Each comes with a free innertube.
