Panaracer Stradius Extreme
BikeRadar verdict
"A top quality road racing tyre"
This is Panaracer's top-of-the-range race tyre, and as such is intended for year-round use.
The Stradius Extreme features their ZSG Ultima compound that promises outstanding wet weather grip. The Lava Rock tread compound is neither particularly hard nor soft, but the supple sidewall provides a comfortable ride akin to riding a good set of tubulars. The three-layer construction is very durable but it's quite a narrow tyre, especially as it measured up 1.5mm less than the stated 23mm width. The Extremes also turned out to weigh 24g each more than Panaracer claim.
This is an easy tyre to fit and remove with nothing more than your bare hands, and the wider-than-average breaker strip is claimed to reduce the incidence of sidewall damage. The tread is quite thin and it wears quicker than most, but the Stradius Extreme provides outstanding cornering grip that just keeps getting better the harder you push it. It will appeal to those who like to test their bikes to the limit. We tested the 23mm version, but the 20mm tyre weighs in a useful 20g lighter.
