Hutchinson Top Speed Stop Puncture
BikeRadar verdict
"A fast-training tyre with clout."
Hutchinson set their stall out in the name of this tyre. It's meant a fast training (or even racing) tyre, and it has a different-density rubber breaker-strip under the tread.
The skinwall sidewalls have a thin layer of synthetic protection. In practice, puncture resistance is on a par with the Conti Ulta Gatorskin through tread and sidewall, making it pretty tough for a training tyre but only averagely tough for a commuting tyre. It rolls and corners like the training tyre it is. As the 28mm version is rated to 101psi, it's not as fast as the higher pressure Michelin XCR Road or Specialized All Condition Pro but it's similar to the 25mm Panaracer and the 28mm Conti Gatorskin. There's a file pattern on the shoulders of the tyre that would serve as a dynamo track.
All three sizes of the tyre come in Kevlar and wire bead versions. We tested the Kevlar one; the wire one is £3 cheaper.
