$10k team bike stolen from Lance Armstrong's shop
Thieves have stolen a $10,000 Trek-Livestrong time trial bike from Lance Armstrong's bike shop, Mellow Johnny's.
The Trek Equinox TTX SSL has team member Ryan Baumann's name on the top tube and custom-painted Bontrager aero bars.
It was being stored in an empty room next to the Tour de France legend's store in Austin, Texas when it was taken.
Mellow Johnny's have appealed for help on their Twitter page, saying: "Help!! We had Trek-Livestrong TT bike stolen Sunday November 22, similar to one pictured. Please RT [Re-Tweet]... Stolen bike has some unique features like TT bars that were special for the team."
Earlier this year, seven-time Tour de France winner Armstrong used Twitter to help recover his time trial bike after it was stolen from the back of a van during the Tour of California.

Oh,I dunno.Soon strip it & sell the main parts ,eg wheels, groupset legitimately, then pass on the frame to someone who hasn't any scruples who could soon have a basic respray.
I certainly wouldn't condone such behaviour, but plenty of crooks must know it's value, sold as parts on some well known aucton site

Lottsa theft here in South Africa but not so much bike theft. While back there was a tik kop (meth head) junkie who was leaping outa the bushes and stealing mountain bikes on the lower slopes of Table Mountain - at gunpount. He was later arrested and admitted to stealing the bikes to fed his habit.

It happens a lot, a lot of time by addicts who will sell your pride and joy at the nearest pub or bar for cash for a quick fix.

Why is this news? Stuff gets nicked from bike shops all the time. It only makes the news when Lance is involved.

actually must agree. everything the Lance does makes news.. but any theft of a bike is sad right? especially one taht costs as many rands as this one. It may not be the one I would buy if I could blow that kind of money (apologies to Mr Boonen) but still..
