2009 UK road race dates announced

Russell Downing takes victory at the 2008 East Yorkshire Classic Premier Calendar Race (British Cycling)

The dates for the UK Premier Calendar Road Race Series and the Elite Men’s Circuit Race Series have been announced for 2009.

The Premier Calendar Road Race Series is made up of 13 events, beginning with the Bikeline 2 Day race in Flintshire, Wales on 14-15 March. Expect to see Great Britain’s top riders, including Russ and Dean Downing – 2008 top two finishers – along with the likes of Olympians Chris Newton and Rob Hayles.

The Elite Men’s Circuit Race Series is made of 11 courses and the high-speed nature of these races is set to attract many spectators to the city and town-centre based circuits. The series begins at the purpose built Hillingdon Cycle Circuit in West London in May.

British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director Jonny Clay said: “The 2009 Premier Calendar and Elite Circuit Race series’ will provide us with a fantastic year’s road racing. Both the 2009 Premier Calendar and Elite Circuit Race series’ look set to be fantastic events."
