Aldi selling budget helmet cam

Aldi say the Oregon ATC2K Action Cam mounts easily on helmets, handlebars and other sports equipment (Aldi)
German supermarket chain Aldi's great value cycling kit is popular with many of our forum members so we were interested to see the latest product to hit shop shelves in the UK – this sports video camera.
Priced at £49.99, the Oregon ATC2K Action Cam records full-colour digital video in 640 x 480 resolution at 30 frames per second, and Aldi say it can be mounted easily on helmets and handlebars.
It's said to be waterproof up to three metres, and other features include a 32MB internal memory and built-in card reader that can take a 2GB SD card (not included), plus PC and TV playback. It's available now in stores nationwide.
There are cheaper helmet cams on eBay, but they're not weatherproof and we've been less than impressed by the quality of the footage when riding off-road, especially in low light. The Aldi camera is still a lot cheaper than most of the mainstream offerings, so it'll be interesting to see how it performs. Have you bought one? Let us know what it's like in the comments box below.

I had one of these a couple of years ago - paid over £100. I was extremely dissapointed in it. Usability is fiddly when you are out and picture quality was not great - with videos looking like a webcam session. I could have lived with those two things, but the main issue for me was that the mounting brackets are poorly designed so whether mounted on your helmet or handlebars, the image was so wobbly, that it made me sick watching it back. The second issue that I was really dissapointed with (maybe I had a dodgy unit) was that the sound recording was pathetic - I got nothing but windnoise and even when static, speech sounded like it was 50 metres away. I sold mine on ebay after two uses. Even at £49.99 I cannot recommend this device personally.

yeah these were £100 when they first came out, and completely useless - DO NOT BUY IT!! the footage is worse than an old mobile phone video, and it's not capable of taking any kind of slight shocks without the whole screen going wobbly/blacking out. Not even suitable for a light xc ride. Also the mounts it comes with are useless and fail to hold it in place securely

Agreed - my wife got me one some years back and it's awful. The picture is awful, battery life is poor, the sound is non-existent and it's so fiddly to use, with no playback until you get to a TV or PC. I had to tell her that I didn't like the weight of it on one side of my helmet, but in truth it was just rubbish, pure and simple.

Yeah, they suck!
My mate borrowed one of the next model up and it had the same problems everyone else has said about! Even riding the fireroads connecting trails the footage would be shaking about all over the place and the audio made it sound like you were filming underwater...
Steer clear!
