Deus Ex Machina is not a name that will be familiar to many in the cycling fraternity, but to surfers and motorbike riders – particularly Australian ones – it should ring all sorts of bells.
For a while now, an offshoot of the brand – Milan-based Deus Cycleworks – has been dabbling in pushbike customisation. And the bike we have before us is its apogee – the race-ready Deus Carby. The Carby, and other urban style bikes, are now available in the UK exclusively through the South West independent bike shop, Rockets & Rascals.
The frame is a Columbus Genius, –a monocoque carbon frameset that’s geared towards racing. The head tube is a relatively short 145mm on a size medium, and the headset is tapered for responsive cornering and a stable front end. The frame is relatively light too – a claimed 900g for the medium size.
Deus makes the bike its own with some epic paintjobs and custom builds (check out Deus Customs for some of its more radical designs). Two designs are available in the UK, this stealth black model, and a striking yellow and black option. For a £150 surcharge, you can have access to all the Pantone colours and design talent at Deus Cycleworks' disposal.
The frame and Zipp finishing kit will set you back £2,500. Contact the Rockets team for full build options.
