First look: Lumicycle LEDSystem4
The latest bits of kit to wing their way to BikeRadar HQ are these new lights from illumination experts Lumicycle.
There are two lamp options, flood or spot, each of which uses four Cree XRE-R2 LEDs to pump out a claimed 1,120 lumens on full power – 2,240 lumens per pair.
Each light has five modes – flashing, commute, low, high and boost – and can be mounted on your bars or helmet.
A single spot lamp with 5.2Ah battery and charger costs £339.99, with additional flood or spot lamps priced at £199.99.
The units have an on-board smart indicator showing battery condition and the mode you’re in.
The switch is an up/down toggle which is supposed to provide more positive engagement and be easy to use, especially with gloves.
Combined weight for the Elite battery and two units (including brackets plus adapters for oversize bars) is 560g
Claimed battery life is 2.2 hours on ‘boost’ with the ‘Elite’ battery, and 4.4 hours with the ‘Pro’ battery, they'll be on sale in August.
We’re looking forward to fitting these to a bike, hitting the dark and seeing what they’re like in the real world. Look out for an upcoming review in Mountain Biking UK magazine.

A similar twin torch setup can be had from DealExtreme for a about £100 with spare batteries. It'll give you close to 2000 lumens, uses SSC P7 leds, Lithium batteries and bar mounts. Maybe fix a third to your helmet and night turns into day, I know I've done it.

Yep, I blew £300 on a proper bike light last year and bought a £35 torch from deal extreme for my helmet. Might as well have turned the bar light out - couldn't see it with the P7 head torch on. You just have to make sure you're moving fast enough to stop the un heat-sunk LED from overheating and burning itself out.

also dont overlook that lumicycle can (or at least used to) swap and service any component part of their lightset. coupled with personal service - i found quite useful to have these guys on call when buying expensive lighting kit which lasts for years as a result

Can I just say Exposure lights don't bother with anything else

good call raleigh853. You get the maxx daddy 4 led job, you need nothing else. I got mine september last year. It's as bright as a car head light on full beam, will run for 3 / 10 / 24 hours on high , medium and low respectively. Also it flashes for DAYS if you can get round the head trip! Quality after sales service from exposure as well, my bracket was a bit dodgy, phoned up and they sent me a brand new one worth £25 out FOC no questions asked.

Crazy Power! 10w Halogen lights used to be enough to ride off road with. Now I have a three year old Exposure Enduro, and soon its 320 lumens won't be bright enough because all my mates will be buying 1000-2000 lumen lights, and ruining my night vision which adjust to their beams and not mine.
Can we all agree that we're not going to buy ever more powerful lights right here and now? Lumicycle can stuff their 2000 lumens! 320 is plenty!
I still get flashed by cars objecting to my dazzle if I have my Exposure Enduro adjust to a level position on my road bike.
Jess
PS. You heard it here: 320 is plenty!
