First look: New kit from Endura

By BikeRadar

Scottish company Endura are renowned for their good-value technical mountain bike wear, and they've got some cracking new kit for 2009. We thought we'd give you a quick look at some of it. Look out for full reviews on BikeRadar later in the year after we've put this gear through some thorough testing.

Hummvee short-sleeve jersey

The Hummvee jersey is designed to go with the popular shorts of the same name. Made of a rapid-wick fabric it should keep you dry no matter how much the terrain makes you sweat. Features include four rear pockets (one with zip), mesh panels for ventilation, reflective details, silicone backpack grippers on the shoulders and an internal microfibre glasses wipe. It's available in five sizes and three colours (black, red or white). RRP is £34.99.

BaaBaa Tech Zip Neck short-sleeve jersey

The BaaBaa is a 100 percent merino wool base layer that's casual enough to wear as an outer layer on warmer days, thanks to its relaxed fit and polo shirt-style collar. Merino is highly breathable and stays warm when wet, and it also doesn't tend to stink as badly as man-made fibres after a long day in the saddle. The BaaBaa is available in five sizes and three colours (black, grey and red). RRP is £44.99.

CoolMax Stripe socks

Endura's CoolMax Stripe socks come in a pack of three for £9.99, in a choice of two sizes. They fit snugly and the CoolMax fabric is designed to be fast wicking and drying. What more can you ask for?

Glasses

Endura have sent us three pairs of glasses. All come with light reactive photochromatic lenses, soft-touch temple overlays and rubber nose pieces, plus a hard carry case and microfibre bag. The lightweight Angel, at £39.99, also comes with a spare clear lens.

  • Following a disasterous kit-shrinking episode with a washing machine whilst on hols., I treated myself to a Humvee and Merino jeresey from the LBS. The Humvee is a very nice jersey - wicks well and isn't too 'cyclist looking', although the rear pockets are a bit redundant when wearing a pack.

However, the Merino top is absolutely excellent. It's not merntioned in the review, but the back and pits have a lighter perforated fabric, which I find stays much dryer and more comfortable than any other bike top I've worn. The Merino fabric also has more stretch than the Humvee fabric - this together with the cut makes it a superbly comfortable jersey, both on & off the bike.

If I had to give em marks out of 5, Humvee would get 4, Merino 5+ (by far the best merino top I've got).

  • after the lamentable service they have given our club (over its kit order) I'm finding it very difficult to warm to anything that Endura produces.
