Pippa Middleton’s RAAM bike to be sold for charity

Middleton's Race Across America Dassi bike to raise funds for British Heart Foundation

Pippa Middleton has donated her Race Across America (RAAM) bike to the British Heart Foundation to raise money for the charity through an online auction.

As a British Heart Foundation ambassador, Middleton rode the £2,500 Dassi during her successful attempt at the 3,020-mile RAAM, where she and her seven other teammates clocked a time of six days, 10 hours and generating donations of over £20,000 for the Michael Matthews Foundation in the process. Now the bike will be sold on the British Heart Foundation’s eBay site to fund life-saving research.

The auction for the 50cm SRAM-equipped bike went live at 9am yesterday and will run for 10 days.

Pippa said: “The challenge of riding across the Rockies, coping with the heat of the Arizona desert and climbing over 170,000 vertical feet in the six days was incredibly tough, but every inch of the 3,000 mile race was worth it, to help the BHF fight heart disease.

“I wanted to complete this challenge to help raise awareness of the importance of heart health after learning that coronary heart disease kills nearly three times more women than breast cancer. So whether you’re inspired to get fit or you’re a cycling fanatic wanting to add to your bike collection, visit bhf.org.uk/ebay to bid now. I’m keen to raise as much money as possible to help the BHF fund life-saving heart research.”

Half the funds raised from the auction will be donated to the Michael Matthews Foundation, which helps to provide education to children around the world. Pippa also completed the Race Across America challenge in aid of the Michael Matthews Foundation, alongside the BHF.
