Ridley quits Silence-Lotto
The riders of Silence-Lotto won't race on Ridley bikes in 2009. The Belgian bike manufacturer announced it will end its sponsorship of the Belgian ProTour team and will sponsor the Russian team Katusha, successor of Team Tinkoff.
"We aim on a more international level, and we think to accomplish that by sponsoring a multinational team like Katusha," says Ridley manager Anthony Kumpen. Ridley developed the Dean, a new time trial bike for Silence-Lotto leader and Tour de France runner-up Cadel Evans, but according to Kumpen, that didn't work out completely the way they wanted. In 2009 Gert Steegmans and his Katusha teammates will race on the Ridely Noah, Helium and Dean. Silence-Lotto rider Robbie McEwen has been rumoured to join Steegmans at Katusha, as has Liquigas star Filippo Pozzato.
Which manufacturer will replace Ridley at Silence-Lotto is not decided yet. There are two bike brands in the running: French Look and Belgian Museeuw Bikes, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Just off the top of my head, Barloworld, Saunier-Duval, CSC, Credit Agricole, Gerolsteiner, Rabobank, and (stateside) Toyota-United are losing significant, if not title sponsors, and lucky the team with a suitor to replace them.
If this is about doping, this seems like the worst year to drop out, just as the sport really seems to have scandals under control. If this is about the ProTour, then it doesn't discriminate against teams with only Continental-reach sponsors.
I'm starting to suspect that all of the old guard will turn over into new teams, based on the benefactor-built models of High Road, Slipstream, or Katoesja, and if so, there's going to be a glut of top-level pros looking for work. What was it again that Tinkov said about not overpaying talent?

This does seem a lot of upheaveal, but no real reasons why. Silence-Lotto have twice TDF runner-up Cadel Evens and a certain Robbie McEwen in their ranks. As far as I know, none of the team has been caught doping so why?
