Tour Series starts in 2009

By BikeRadar

SweetSpot, the organisers and promoters of the Tour of Britain, have just announced the launch of The Tour Series – a 10 event criterium series across towns and city centres in the UK, due to begin in 2009.

Taking place on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings throughout late May and June, the rounds of the tour have been described by the organisers as the “culmination of a festival of cycling-based activities and races that will create a carnival atmosphere at each of the chosen venues.”

The event is different to most criterium series, with a focus on team rather than individual performance.

British professional teams are expected to make up the bulk of the riders in the series, and talks with major terrestrial and satellite providers are underway to televise each round of the Tour.

Darlington, Derby, Exeter, Milton Keynes, Southport, Stoke-on-Trent, Woking and York are currently in line to host a round, although a final list of venues has yet to be decided.
