Yesterday saw the 2012 Giro d'Italia arrive on home soil after the brief sojourn in Denmark and with 17 stages still to go, the contenders vying for the overall win have yet to get the chance to show their hand.

With last year's 'winner' Alberto Contador absent through suspension, this year's race looks as wide open as it has for many a season.
