Women cyclists to get free champagne

By Rosee Woodland

Women cyclists are being promised champagne and cut prices to entice them into Evans Cycles stores.

The UK retailer is hosting a series of Ladies Nights at its shops throughout the country in May.

The aim is to ‘demystify’ the bike buying experience. Women attending will get advice on the best bike for them, and tips on maintenance.

Claire Beaumont, Evans Cycles fitness expert, said: “Cycling is a great way to keep fit. It’s a self regulated low impact exercise meaning you can ride at what ever pace you want.

“Cycling brands have realised this and there is now a very comprehensive range of clothing and equipment to accompany this great fat burning exercise. Cycling is a great way to exercise and easy to fit into your schedule – you can ride to work, ride at the weekend with the family or even go cycling with a friend and use it as an excuse to socialise”.

Each woman attending the events will get a glass of bubbly and an exclusive 10 per cent discount which can be used on the night.

The first 50 ladies through the door at each store will also receive an exclusive Ladies Night goody bag containing riding essentials like a water-bottle and multi.

There will also be a competition with £200 worth of Evans Cycles vouchers to be won at each store, accompanied by maintenance demonstrations.

And Evans has teamed up with cycle kit specialist Pearl Izumi to offer guests the chance to be kitted out tip to toe in Pearl Izumi cycling wear up to the value of £140.

To enter, download the Evans’ Ladies Night invitation, complete the entry form attached and hand it to a member of staff at the Ladies Night you attend.

The Ladies Nights are being held at the following stores:

Thursday 8th May Manchester

Tuesday 13th May London, Spitalfields

Thursday 15th May Bristol

Thursday 22nd May Brighton

Thursday 29th May London, Canary Wharf

  • Last year I wanted to buy a big saddlebag (for my race bike - not pannier fixings on the bike), so popped in to the Waterloo Cut branch to take a look at what they had (having called first to confirm they had touring kit). Unfortunately the bod who offered to help me didn't know what a saddlebag was and tried flogging me some panniers... I kid you not!!

  • If the roles were reversed there would be an almighty uproar about sexual discrimination, but of course champers for the ladies is OK :-?

  • Oh good grief! Another worthless incentive to buy from Evans, shame about the bad customer service.

  • I hope that Evans will be making similar offers to Gentlemen or they may be guilty of sexual discrimination!
