Ondrej Sosenka tests positive

Czech cyclist and current world hour record holder Ondrej Sosenka had a positive drugs test at the Czech national championships in June and now faces a ban, the CTK agency said Friday, citing senior members of his PSK Whirlpool-Author team.

Sosenka tested positive for the banned stimulant methamphetamine at the championships in the south-western town of Trebon. If the second "B" test proves positive as well he faces being banned from the Czech-based team.

"The team has distanced itself from his misdemeanour and has cancelled his contract with immediate effect until the "B" test...Ondrej Sosenka has seriously broken the rules and above all damaged himself, because for him this apparently means the the end of his career," PSK team manager Vladimir Vavra told the agency.

Sosenka,  32, set the world hour record in July 2005 in Moscow when he rode at a speed of 49.7 kilometres (30.9 miles) on a tailor-made bike.

  • Meth, as in crystal meth? I guess if you've lost your teeth then you would be a lighter rider eh?

  • Does this mean Chris Boardman now has a moral claim to still being the Hour record holder? Far from just being clean Boardman was actually foregoing treatment for a debilitating illness when he made his successful Hour bid.
