The bikes and bits we love from the world's biggest bike show

Our detailed answer to the perennial question, "See anything cool at the show?"

Eurobike is the world's biggest bike show and it's where a majority of the biggest players in the bike industry still choose to unveil their bikes and other products. So it sure gives us here at BikeRadar plenty of work to do.

Now, fresh off the back of Eurobike 2017, we've spent most of the week digging through jam-packed memory cards and notebooks stuffed with illegible scribbles on the latest and greatest products that the bike industry is hoping to sell in 2018.

Usually at Eurobike, the standard greeting among friends or fellow journalists goes something like this: “Hey, man. Good to see you. See anything cool at the show?”

Well, friends, let us answer with this article.

7Mesh Mission Jersey

Clever fabric tech means this 7Mesh Mission Jersey is one we can't wait to wear

The most important piece of this jersey? What’s not there.

Polartec’s new fabric is constructed with an immense amount of next-to-skin loft — meaning air — with a thin external layer

The end result is a thin, light piece with an excellent insulation-to-weight ratio.

We tested 10 high-end tires for rolling resistance at Wheel Energy in Finland and the Pro One proved the fastest.

With 14 bottom bracket standards employed by frame manufacturers, and more than a dozen types of cranks, can anyone keep track of which bottom bracket you need for your bike? Wheel Manufacturing can!

This handy chart is available as a PDF on the Wheels MFG site. You can also just call Wheels MFG in the US or Europe and the good folks there will happily steer you to your solution.

Continental Grand Prix 4000 SII

Aerodynamically speaking, this is the fastest clincher out there
Aerodynamically speaking, this is the fastest clincher out there

While no longer the absolute fastest, Conti’s Grand Prix is low in rolling resistance, high in wet and dry drip, and relatively durable for a race-level clincher.

During a recent visit with wheel brand SwissSide, we learned that the tire is also the fastest clincher aerodynamically, thanks — quite unintentionally — to the molding on the sides of the tread that serves as a laminar trip layer.

KTM Prowler 29er

KTM's Prowler sure has the looks and we can't wait to try one out
KTM's Prowler sure has the looks and we can't wait to try one out

Bringing KTM into the world of long travel 29ers is the new Prowler, and it’s a bike that I’m pretty excited about.

In truth, there’s nothing particularly revolutionary about its design, but with seemingly sorted geometry, suspension and those sharp looks, does there really need to be?

We can’t wait to get our hands on one.

MET Trenta helmet

We've been testing our MET Trenta sample for a little while already

The Trenta has been placed on the heads of pros for a little while but is now available to me and you.

This helmet is basically a celebration of 30 years of MET as a company, and so the firm has pulled out all the stops in order to make this a party to remember.

Pitched as somewhere between a traditional ventilated lid and an aero road helmet, the Trenta has 19 vents and this version — the Trenta 3K carbon — substitutes a substantial amount of EPS foam for carbon fibre, which means it comes in at a feathery claimed weight of 215g for a size medium.

We've had our test sample for a little while now so stay tuned for a full review.

Matthew Allen's pick

Matthew Allen's choice is the 2018 BMC Roadmachine 01 Two
Matthew Allen's choice is the 2018 BMC Roadmachine 01 Two

We love skinwall tyres, and few bikes wear them better than the 2018 BMC Roadmachine 01 Two.

With SRAM’s eTap HRD groupset, some very nice DT Swiss wheels and geometry that looks spot-on for most of us, they could rename this lovely thing the Dreammachine as far as we’re concerned.

It doesn’t come cheap though — £7,900 in the UK! Ouch.

Tom Marvin's pick

Tom Marvin reckons this new Trail Suit from Dirlej will be awesome for uplifted rides!
Tom Marvin reckons this new Trail Suit from Dirlej will be awesome for uplifted rides!

Dirtlej's Trail Suit looks like the perfect winter riding companion, certainly if your winter riding is based around slipping down steep, muddy, rooty trails.

It's an all-in-one waterproof, so there's no chance of splashes dripping from your jacket down the back of your shorts.

There are plenty of pockets and air vents, so hopefully it won't be too warm. There's also a full-leg-length version and we reckon this would be awesome for uplifted rides!
