Liv is a women's specific cycling brand that produces road, mountain, commuter and leisure bikes. The brand is the sister company to Giant Bicycles and was launched ahead of the 2015 season.
While the bikes still feature 'handcrafted by Giant' markings, they all have a bespoke women's specific geometry. Liv based these designs around information taken from a global database of body metrics, which gives information on things like inseam length, height, weight, strength and sit-bone distances from men and women across nine nationalities.
Liv feels that, on average, there are significant enough differences between men and women to mean that most women would benefit from a bike with a geometry designed specifically for them. The brand also, like other brands, uses rider and pro-rider feedback to refine bike designs and component specifications.
Liv also has a history of supporting women's cycling. It sponsors both the Liv Plantur women's cycling team and the internationally successful Rabo-Liv team, which includes 2016 Olympic champion Anna van der Breggen and multiple World Champion Marianne Vos. However, Liv's five-year sponsorship of this highly successful team comes to a conclusion at the end of 2016.
Liv's 2017 range
For 2017, Liv has released two new models of full-suspension mountain bike: the Liv Hail, a 160mm-travel trail/enduro bike, and the 120mm-travel Pique, designed for aggressive cross-country and trail riding. These replace the Lust and the Intrigue, which have been retired from the line — In 2015, the Liv Lust was the best selling mountain bike out of both the Liv and Giant mountain bike ranges.
The mountain bike line also includes the full-suspenion Embolden, as well as the Tempt and Obsess hardtail mountain bikes.
Key lines within the road bike range include the Liv Avail, a performance endurance road bike and the Liv Envie aero performance road bike — The Liv Avail 1 took the title of best women's road bike under £1,000 in our 2016 Women's Road Bike of the Year Awards.
For time-trialists and triathletes there is the seriously good-looking Liv Avow. While cyclocross racers are catered to with the Liv Brava, a performance CX bike.
Liv also offers a range of city and leisure bikes, including the Thrive CoMax, which is a sporty city bike and the beautiful and practical dutch-style Liv Flourish with integrated hub-powered lights and a step-through frame.
