BikePark Wales have launched a website one month prior to the 24 August unveiling of their highly anticipated facility. The new site features everything required to plan a full day at the centre.
An interactive trail map gives an overview of each of the 23 trail sections, listing riding to suit everyone from cross-country whippets to downhill racers. Spaces can also be booked online for the largest capacity UK uplift facility, which climbs 491m to the summit of Mynydd Gethin via a newly constructed fireroad – it will hold 64 people each day at weekends.
Riders can also pre-book rentals from a fleet of high-end bikes provided by park sponsors Trek. It's also possible to pre-book equipment for hire, ideal for those new to mountain biking.
Entry to the bike park (payable at the visitor centre on the day) will cost £5 per day for those looking to pedal up, or £30 for those who wish to use the uplift facility. Visitors will also be relieved to learn that there will be no car parking charge. Head to www.bikeparkwales.com for more information.
Park sponsors Mountain Biking UK have previewed some of the trail sections at BikePark Wales. Here's what features editor Doddy had to say after the visit:
"Last week, myself and a few of the MBUK crew were lucky enough to be invited to check out some of the completed sections of trail at the soon-to-open BikePark Wales. In blistering 35-degree heat, the trail crew are working harder than ever to get things finished, but are in need of rain for the final touches – final surface prep is hard work with the ground being rock hard. However, they've done a sterling job to date, getting a huge variety of stuff cut in.
"We rode a mixture of blue, red and black sections, some of them being flat-out fast and flowing and others being tight, twisty and damned technical. Some of the black stuff cut in by hand is insanely technical and will catch loads of riders out. Although we barely touched the surface, we had a great day and can't wait to get down there on the opening weekend – see you there!"
