What do you do when you hear that a brute of a World Champ is coming to town to visit you? Throw down the gauntlet of course and challenge the big man to prove his worth!

So that’s how our very own staff writer Ed found himself at Bike Park Wales alongside current World Enduro champion rider Richie Rude, to do battle in a series of ‘highly serious’ technical challenges.

Richie is a guy who lets his riding do all the talking, but he did let us in on is how he uses his size to his advantage for carrying speed on the trials. If you have ambitions for a being a future World Champ, then turn to page 60, to find out what you can learn from Richie and of course who won the challenge!

If that leaves you hungry to learn more skills, we have loads of great advice to try in our Manual section on page 135. Everything from drifting corners, to hopping up ledges and building wooden kickers.

Find out how to build and jump a wooden kicker in this month's How To section (backflip skills not included, sorry!)

If you’re after some airtime this summer, then you should definitely check out this month’s Wrecking Crew on page 154.

We’ve been to Cornwall to ride Woody’s Bike Park — the UK’s newest dirt playground. It’s opening on the first weekend of August, so get the full low down and start planning your trip.

If big days in the hills are more your cup of tea, then this month’s Big Ride will hopefully inspire you to plan an adventure.

We’ve ridden the rugged moody trails of Capel Curig, Snowdonia and there are route maps from the Mendips, Lake District and South Downs too.

Summer also means World Cup racing and we’ve been glued to our TVs watching, but have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes?

Our Inside Line feature on page 78 takes a look behind the scenes at all the people who are involved in the big show. And on the subject of racing, we’ve also got the reports from this summer’s Crankworx events and the epic Trans-Provence enduro.

As usual, we’ve thrashed a load of kit for this month’s Wrecked and Rated section too. We've skidded up 16 high volume trail tyres and put four UK-designed sub-£1,000 hardtails through their paces down the trails of Black Mountains Cycle Centre.
