Team Cycling Plus will be updating you each week with the highs and lows of their training as part of the team. As Andy grows some facial fuzz he notes a distinct lack of beards on the faces of pro-riders...

Two weeks holiday with the family meant two weeks without my Verenti. My old mountain bike is a bit more practical when it comes to attaching the trailer bike necessary for any decent bike rides with the kids. It was a very laid back fortnight – one week in a beach cabin in a remote corner of Anglesey, one week in a dome tent in a forest near Cardigan. The hippy-like ambience even inspired me to grow a beard!
Fortunately, the beach cabin wasn’t so relaxed to not have a TV with access to ITV4 and the highlights of the Tour de France. The kids actually joined me in watching this. I spent years trying to get them to watch football with me with very limited success, so it was refreshing to find them following a sport that I love. Maybe my membership of Team Cycling Plus was having an influence. It was only as the highlights continued that it became clear that they were more interested in the spectators and their costumes (or rather the occasional lack of them) than the racing.
As I reflected on my new look, I noticed the presence of facial hair in the pro peloton was notable only by its absence. I couldn’t think of any top rider now, or ever, with a full beard. Perhaps all that leg shaving causes razor addiction. The nearest I could get was that the grey bits made me look like a badger – although I don’t think that’s how Bernard Hinault got his nickname.
So not much cycling for two weeks - I had to content myself with practising wheelies.
