Team Cycling Plus will be updating you each week with the highs and lows of their training as part of the team. This week Sam falls in love with his bike...
I’ve really started to love the Verenti Millook. The more I ride it, the more it makes sense. I’ve been doing a lot more riding on the drops this week, mainly when riding on the flat and on descents; I also feel more confident on descents, mainly due to the positive feel of the Sram brake lever set up on the Millook.
I think I’m now getting my eating/cycling balance right. I lost 1kg this week, which has taken me down to 85.8kg (13st 7lbs) and it feels great. I also bought my first pair of 32” waist shorts on Saturday. I can’t remember when I was last in a pair of trousers that size though I imagine I was still in my mid-teens and counting my age in half-years! I’ve still got a way to go but every kilo I lose seems to make climbing easier although I think it’s probably a mental rather than a physical benefit. I needed this feeling on Saturday morning when a friend and I rode a 35mile route with 675m of climbing, although I’ll be doing more climbing come June when I take part in the Verenti Dragon Ride!
My commutes have been great this week. I’ve added in some hard, hilly rides with some recovery rides, which has meant that I’ve not had that tired-Thursday feeling I sometimes get. I’ll be starting to do some sprint sessions on my morning journey to work as preparation for my first TT this Thursday. I’ve not had chance to worry about it as I’ve been very busy with work over the past week but I think it’s going to hit me come Wednesday and I’ll start worrying about what time I do. A friend has offered to lend me a set of aero-bars so we’re going to attempt to fit them on Sunday night to give me the chance to try them out during the week.
Confirmation of my first Sportive has also arrived; I’m going to be taking part in the Keswick Sportive on the 22nd May which I can’t wait for. I’m sure the 34-27 gears will get a hammering on that day!
