Thanks to a generous wife, and helped by the distraction of the Mummy Make Me Better doll Santa had delivered for Polly, my Christmas Day got off the best start possible… A ride, in the rain, along a deserted towpath – well almost deserted, I saw two runners. Better than that, when I eventually popped my wheels onto the roads they were 28 Days Later quiet. Imagine if every day was like this? I hate that bloody Wizzard song, but as a cyclist I really do wish it could be Christmas every day. And having ridden early it also means that I can get brilliantly drunk, safe in the knowledge that I’ve got some exercise under my belt – ho ho ho! Oh, and the picture of Santa on his bike? They’re my near neighbour’s. It’s stuck on the end of a row of terrace cottages here in Bath, but I reckon that they belong to the bloke who rides the Ribble!
