Team Cycling Plus will be updating you each week with the highs and lows of their training as part of the team. In his second blog Andy tells us how the delivery of the Verenti Millook, has upped his motivation…
As part of our team membership we are required to fill out a weekly training log for our coach, Ben Simmons. This includes our resting heart rate, weight, a rating of our sleep and our “feel good factor”. We also have to fill in details of any rides we have done and any other exercise we may have completed. To help us fill this in, Ben sent us an example. Included in this example were one hour of “core stability” (ONE HOUR!!!) and 20 minutes of stretches. I was feeling fairly virtuous on Sunday evening, and decided to work through the yoga stretches in this month’s Cycling Plus, in front of the highlights of Paris Roubaix. All very good, and I was able to record 20 minutes of stretches on my training log while feeling quite smug.
There’s nothing better than a shiny new bike to get you motivated, and on Wednesday I took delivery of a Verenti Millook, courtesy of our Wiggle sponsorship. First impressions were that it was remarkably light and looked the business with a glossy black paint job and red cabling. Managed to get out for a 33 mile blast on it on Thursday. It’s a more upright riding position than my Focus Cayo, but despite this I managed the fastest average speed of the year.
The coming weekend is fantastic for cycling in the Leicestershire and Rutland region. On Saturday there’s the Discover Rutland sportive from Oakham – if you see me on it, say hello. Then, on Sunday, it’s the professionals’ turn in the unique Cicle Classic race http://www.cicleclassic.co.uk/ with its treacherous farm tracks mixed in with the rolling Rutland hills. Both events make a cycling trip to this area well worthwhile.
Who are Team Cycling Plus?

We’ll be following them in the magazine for the next few months as they train towards their personal cycling goals under the guidance of Team Wiggle’s Ben Simmons and we will be publishing their weekly trials and tribulations here too.
