The first day of proper 4X practice starts today at 6 o’clock, with two hours to get acquainted with the track.
It’s a well groomed and shaped BMX track with a little bit of mountain bike trail at the bottom in the form of a sixty metre rock garden. The only big jumps on the track are two double jumps down one straight with a second option of three smaller jumps to the side. You carry good speed into them though so it flows well and I guess they are only big in comparison to the rest of the track where the jumps are pretty mellow.
Loose berms and small jumps usually makes for lots of passes and take-outs so no doubt the racing will be high action and great for the crowds. Hopefully it will work out well for me on the night.
The Junior cross country race was yesterday and those boys don’t hang about! British rider Sebastian Batchelor was having a great ride until this tumble knocked the stuffing out the poor lad.

A brave effort though in this, his first World Championships, and more to come from this dedicated young rider for sure.
