Solid, stable and smooth, but the non-remote resistance change is a pain

It's not cheap but the Super Mag is a super-smooth, simple and versatile lifetime training partner. It comes assembled, so you can get on and go straight away.

The broad-stance legs are adjustable, with locking pins to keep them in place. The big lazy threaded axle clamp locks the bike in a vice-like grip for total confidence too. Lack of a remote control for the four resistance levels is a bit disappointing given the price, and the big flywheel can cause spin when you’re starting off at high resistance.

Get it going though and the turbo’s outstandingly smooth, with a consistently progressive resistance curve that mimics road riding pretty well. There’s potential for proper leg-popping loads, and high momentum makes it great for sprinting. There’s a training DVD included and the turbo has a lifetime warranty.
