Giordana Protection Vest gilet review£59.99

Suited to faster rides

BikeRadar score3.5/5

Before you wade gung-ho into any armed robbery situations, be advised that the Protection Vest is not bulletproof.

Wind and rain, though, need not be feared; the front panels dismiss both with aplomb. The snug collar is comfortable when zipped right up for a final bit of warmth too.

This gilet is lightweight and the mesh back provides temperature control, so it’s suited to faster rides. It doesn’t flap about at speed either.

There are some niggles though. No pockets are provided and the option to pack it down is sorely lacking. The fit also seems excessively long in the front for road bikes.

Rides fast everywhere, all the time. Jamie started riding age 12, first on mountain bikes, progressing through cross-country and downhill racing (followed by motorcycle road racing and a dark time as a runner). A dedicated roadie since 2007, Jamie has dabbled in road racing, crits and time trials, but has the most fun simply riding hard with a couple of friends, chasing daft average speeds. Needless to say, Jamie values pure performance above all else and loves aero kit. Fiercely honest in his reviews. Has a chain-cleaning fetish.
