Hefty price tag, but great for cold starts and long descents

The tuxedo of the gilet world, Rapha's new windproof, water-resistant layer comes in a striking black and white colour combo, adorned by a suitably hefty price tag.

More substantial than the old Emergency gilet, the silky material is great for cold starts and long descents, while its mesh lined back keeps you from feeling clammy when you heat up, and there's an airy mesh central back panel too. The excellent detailing includes a fleece lined storm flap, elastic draw cord at the hem, three pockets (one is concealed for valuables) and a large reflective logo. It feels a bit weighty in the hands, but it folds down compactly enough to fit in a jersey pocket.

Colours: black and white. Sizes: S-XXL.
