The Hummvee is a high-quality jersey that feels fabulous on the trails. It has a relaxed fit and is flat-stitched throughout, so although there are several seams around the shoulders, they don’t chafe you even if you’re wearing a pack.
This is the heaviest of all the tops that we have tested lately, but it’s the one that kept us feeling freshest when things hotted up. All of our skin site temperatures dropped over the course of our test period in the environment chamber – as did our core temperature – and our average skin reading was lower than with any other jersey we've tested.
The Hummvee was among the best at wicking sweat off our skin, too. The textured main fabric lets a lot of air breeze in, while mesh panels under the arms and a mid-length neck zip provide more ventilation. On top of all that, you get a bunch of first-rate features, including a zipped pocket around the back (on top of the three standard ones) that comes with a port for your earphones.
A chinguard and a facing (or garage) behind the zip avoid any discomfort there, and a little microfibre glasses wipe sewn into the side seam comes in handy when your specs steam up. We found the silicone print on the shoulders too slippery to grip backpack straps effectively, but the subtle reflectives make sure you get seen on the road at night.
