Good fit and solidly made, but too much for the warmer days of autumn

Chunky mountain bike fleeces used to be all the rage, but the Polaris Zone is one of what is now a surprisingly rare breed.

It’s described as an “active outdoor fleece top” rather than a bike-specific one, but it has got cycle-friendly features, such as reflective trim around the hem and sleeves.

There’s no rear pocket, which would usually be found on a bike jersey. There is a zipped chest pocket, but that’s not our favourite pouch location – anything with any weight tends to swing in front of you.

As you’d expect from a fairly thick fleece, this is a warm top, and is probably best saved for the tail end of autumn. The three-quarter front zip affords good ventilation, while a zip garage prevents irritation.

We did find the collar a tad too tall, but how much of an issue that is will depend on your shape and riding position. Fit is fairly close, but there’s scope for a base layer if you need more warmth.
