In past tests Nike shoes have generally been a bit tight for those of us with wider, flatter feet so the wider Ventoux Wide size option comes as some relief. Coming in at the enthusiast to sport price point, the Ventoux is well made and built to last. There's no carbon sole but the 6.6 nylon used is stiff and stands up well to continued tarmac dabs and will tolerate heavy commuting and winter filth.
The synthetic leather uppers follow suit and the meshed toe and vented tongue help to cool things down without letting too much water spray through in the wet. The ratchet system has a customary clunk of security and is backed up by two Velcro straps. The only issue we had was with the foremost strap that can cause the tongue to rub on the upper side of the big toe. Other than that, a solid reliable performance from shoes that most will find comfortable.
