Our review
A great touring all-rounder

Shimano produces a huge range of chainsets and its Deore series is probably the most widely used crankset on both Mtb and touring bikes. Shimano now also makes a Hollowtech II crankset but the one tested is the original version that is compatible with the eight-splined Octalink Mtb series bottom bracket units. We noticed the wider Q-factor of this crankset but you soon get used to it.

In addition to the 22-32-42 version tested here, which is ideal for Mtb, the Deore is also available with 26-38-48 chainrings that are well suited to general touring duties and the performance and smoothness of the shift is without peer.
