Charge Bikes are a fairly new company but they make some of the best frames we've seen and they've released a cool range of components, including these cranks.
Strong cranks are easy to make for mountain bikes, but making them light and efficient too is a different matter completely. Charge's approach has been to keep the cranks as 'mountain bike' as possible, rather than scaling down a three-piece BMX design with smaller, inferior bearings.
The Regulars have a two-piece chromoly design that's strong and fairly light and preloads the bearings in the same manner as Shimano Saint cranks. They also come with an FSA external bottom bracket that's strong, uses good bearings and is easy to replace.
In use, the cranks are very stiff, reliably strong and very easy to fit - there's no messing around with loads of washers like the BMX three-piece designs we like.
