Magura are best known for their excellent brakes and suspension but they also make wheels, like the lightweight Pro. The overall feeling is light but solid, and the attention to detail is evident in the DT XR 4.1D rim, which is welded using a process called Strength Boost Welding Technology. This strengthens the point at which the alloy rim ends meet, producing a seamless weld. The eyelets are stainless steel and these, with the CNC machined sidewalls, produce a clean, mean look.
The rim is attached to the hub using DT double-butted spokes that are tight and true. We tested the 32-spoke version but 28 and 36 are also available. The hub is branded Magura, but is actually a DT Swiss 240 (front and rear), so it's light and tough, and it has high quality sealed cartridge bearings, which should keep it up and running for a long time. It's also drilled for a standard six-bolt rotor so brake compatibility shouldn't be an issue and the quick release skewer is nicely shaped. From the second we started riding a set of Magura Pros, they felt strong and confidence inspiring - their low weight was noticeable on climbs and they gave a good account of themselves on the descents. They aren't for heavy-duty freeride use but they'd certainly get close. Overall, they're excellent for anyone who's serious about hard XC riding.
