Reynolds AM carbon mountain bike wheels review£1,299.99

Carbon hoops

BikeRadar score3/5

Reynolds’ beefy All Mountain wheels are well priced for carbon rimmed rollers, but they’re not light. The thick-walled, centre seamed rims have survived several rock strikes without any damage or deviation. Add rim strips and they’re tubeless compatible too.

With conventional DT Swiss Revolution spokes, they’re stiff enough to carve corners and off-cambers well. Axle switching is easy, but the wheels are only 20mm internally, which restricts bigger tyres. Reynolds bearings need watching in really wet weather too.

While they’re cheap for carbon, they’re not as stiff as the best carbon rims and not any lighter than alloy wheels that feel very similar on the bike. Lighter, tighter 2013 wheels will be available by the time you read this though.
