New York City will host the 38th annual Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic presented by Rockstar Games on 19 June. The event offers races for cyclists of all types, including: children, amateurs, professionals, fixed gear and BMX stunt riders.

The races will be accompanied by a family oriented food festival and live music in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park.

“We’re pleased to once again be a part of the Harlem Cycling Classic,” said Founder of Rockstar Games Sam Houser, who is sponsoring the event for a third consecutive season. “Cycling is a passion and way-of-life for so many of us at Rockstar. It’s an honor to support not only the singular professional cycling event in New York City, but also a day filled with great races and entertainment.”

The late David Walker, a NYPD community affairs officer, founded the event to encourage children to lead healthy and active lifestyles and their races are now recognized as New York City Mayor’s Cup events. Kids participating in the event will have the chance to get a free bike helmet, and bring their old bikes to the New York Police Department organized bike swap.

In addition, Bike New York is teaming with the Department of Transportation’s Education and Outreach division, DOT Bike Program, and Recycle-A-Bicycle to offer the program free to children of all ages, according to a recent press release.

Following the BMX stunt show and the amateur events, the professional racers take the stage in the late afternoon. Promoter, John Eustice, says the peloton will include top national and international racers.

“We want to celebrate the long and rich cycling heritage of New York City and its historic Madison Square Garden races by bringing that format to the streets of Harlem,” said Eustice. “We’re assembling the best track racing cyclists from around the world and are putting on a spectacle of speed and skill. We’re actively encouraging participation from all levels of the community, regardless of experience. This is the ultimate culmination of cycling appreciation wrapped in a festival that only New York can put on.”
