We love to see the big German discount retailers stocking affordable cycling kit which, according to many of our comment posters, is of reasonably good quality.
So, shortly after we featured the apparently incredible value being offered by Lidl with their line of bike bits, we feel duty bound to once again draw your attention to the forthcoming release of Aldi’s equally impressive-looking range of offers.
The gear goes on sale next Thursday, May 1 and among other bargain basement priced items are the following: Coolmax shorts are priced at an impressive £4.99 and are available in lycra or woven, with an antibacterial seat pad, grip elastic on the legs and reflective prints for safety. The woven shorts have the added bonus of a removable inner slip and are available in black from sizes small to large for women and sizes small to extra large for men.
If it’s a pair of cheap bib shorts you’re after then the £6.99 bibs with antibacterial seat pad, grip elastic or silicone binding on the hem with reflective striping for safety at night might be just what you’re after.
For cooler mornings the £5.99 unisex gilet is an ideal ‘keep-in-your-bag-til-it’s-needed’ item. It’s windproof and water repellent with reflective piping and mesh panelling for breathability. Sizes: small to extra large. Colours: pink, royal/black, red/black and black.
If the gilet isn’t enough then the jacket at £9.99 isn’t going to break the bank either. It is breathable, waterproof and available in sizes small to extra large and in a selection of colours including pink/black for women and royal/black, black/red, orange/black for men. All the jackets are finished with reflective details for safety.
The short-sleeved shirt is made from breathable fabric, featuring a zip neck and reflective piping. Available in sizes small to extra large, in a selection of colours including pink for women and orange/white/black/, white/black/red and royal/white/black print for men. It’s priced at £4.99.
Aldi will also have many cycling accessories and essentials, including lightweight cotton cycling socks at £2.49 per pair, cycling gloves at £2.99 per pair and cycling underwear at £3.99.
We’ve asked for some equipment samples from our friends at Aldi and hope to do some head-to-head comparisons with their Lidl equivalents.
