Frankie Andreu, Procycling Magazine’s road test editor, nine-time Tour de France veteran and director sportif of Rock Racing in 2007, has severed ties and ended his working relationship with CEO Michael Ball.
A very diplomatic Andreu, fresh off a rather chilly 20-degree mountain bike ride near his home in Dearborn, Michigan, told BikeRadar he felt good about making the decision, but “it’s always tough doing something like this around Christmas.
“Some of the ways that they’ve handled the sponsors that were considering coming on to the team made me uneasy,” Andreu told velonews.com. “I also had problems with the fact that I had no input at all in decisions about riders joining the team.
“Rock Racing does a lot of things that are different from anyone else,”Andreu added. “They have their own agenda and they have their own goals and they have their own way of setting out to achieve those goals. I’m not entirely comfortable with the way they are hoping to do that.”
Andreu raced professionally for 12 years, with 7-Eleven, Motorola, and United States Postal Service.
