Bella Ciao bikes - First look

New range of Italian handmade city bikes

Bella Ciao is a new range of city bikes with an international flavour – the lugged steel frames are handmade in northern Italy and then powdercoated and assembled in Germany – and classic good looks.

There are four models: the Corvo Citta Donna and Uomo, the Neoreralista and the Ingegnere. All are available as singlespeeds or geared, in a choice of colours. The company reckon they're "fit for everyday use, classic and unassuming, yet with an unmistakable sports DNA".

The Corvo Citta is available in men's (Uomo, above) and women's (Donna, main image) versions. Gearing (if required) is taken care of by a three-speed Shimano Nexus hub, with a coaster brake performing rear stopping duties.

The spec includes a polished aluminium handlebar and wheels, Schwalbe Road Cruiser tyres, a Brooks B17 leather saddle and hand-sewn, water-resistant leather grips. The singlespeed version costs £599 and the three-speed £699. Claimed weight for both models is 14kg (30.9lb).

The Ingengere is made from double-butted Columbus Cromor tubing and, as with all Bella Ciao bikes, has horizontal dropouts and a three-layer powdercoat to preserve its good looks. Claimed weight is 11kg (24.3lb).

The spec includes a coaster brake at the rear and Tektro R556 up front, Continental Sport Contact semi-slick tyres, MKS Sylvan Stream pedals and the same saddle and grips as the Corvo Citta. RRP is £799 for the singlespeed version, £949 for the three-speed and £1,199 if you want an eight-speed Shimano Alfine hub.

Finally, the Neorealista is made from the same Columbus chromoly tubing as the Ingengere but has a traditional step-through frame. It's specced with front and rear polished Tektro R556 brakes, with cables routed internally through the top tube.

Other equipment includes Schwalbe Road Cruiser tyres, MKS Sylvan Stream pedals and Bella Ciao's usual saddle and grips. The singlespeed is £799, the three-speed is £899 and the seven-speed is £1,199. Bella Ciao bikes are available in the UK through Bikesales4u.
