Word on the street in Hollywood is that a bike messenger action movie is in the works, with whispers of big-name screenwriters and a big budget promised by Sony Pictures.
The movie, tentatively called Premium Rush, has a story line involving a New York bike messenger, a dirty cop, and a highly valued package. One can only hope the movie will have more staying power than the 1986 Kevin Bacon messenger flick Quicksilver.
Screenwriter/director David Koepp, best known for writing Angels & Demons, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Zathura, and War of the Worlds, has also directed Ghost Town, Secret Window, Stir of Echoes, and The Trigger Effect. He and fellow collaborator John Kamps wrote Premium Rush together.
Zombieland producer Gavin Polone is also mentioned as producer. Better yet, who will they cast as the bike messenger? Will a bike company gratuitously provide bikes for product placement? Who could score the movie, Danny Elfman or Stewart Copeland? Elfman has experience with Pee-Wee's Big Adventure...
BikeRadar is wondering if this flick will make it to theatres before the much ballyhooed Lance Armstrong bio-pic we've been hearing about for a few years; we watched the Leadville 100 documentary Race Across the Sky in San Jose, California November 12, and enjoyed the big mountains and big sky duel between the seven-time Tour champion Armstrong and six-time Leadville 100 champion Dave Wiens.
