North Yorkshire's most notorious downhiller Dave 'Bullhead' Wardell is partial to a Stella or two. And when he's had a few bevvies, it's not been unknown for him to make the odd bet, usually involving a mountain bike-related challenge. Dave's made a few crazy wagers over the years but a recent night out in Whitby resulted in his most audacious challenge so far. He bet that he and his mate Snipe could ride mountain bikes down a hill faster than two of Britain's best motorcycle trials riders, Dave Hemingway and Martin 'MC' Craven, could get up it on their motorbikes.

What was Bullhead thinking? Sure, downhill mountain bikers are experts at riding fast down hills but moto trials riders are fantastic at hopping up inclines and they've got engines to help them. The hill would have to be very steep for Bullhead and Snipe to win - if the challenge was done on the usual type of BCF course, with the inevitable half-mile uphill sprint in the middle, the moto trials boys would just flick into fifth gear and thrash the mountain bikers...
