A new charity event aims to give businessmen the chance to test themselves on the boards of the Manchester Velodrome and raise money for the NSPCC too. NCC Group and MEN Media have teamed up to challenge the people of Manchester to get on their bikes to raise over £30,000 for the NSPCC. With the support of Manchester Velodrome and British Cycling, a one-day event in June is being organised to raise money for the charity and bring the community together to tackle various cycling challenges in and around the city.
The Cycle Challenge will take place on Sunday 29 June at the Velodrome and will consist of a 50-mile Corporate Challenge event for Manchester businesses and a demanding 50-mile Sporting or 70-mile Endurance Challenge for ambitious individual bike enthusiasts. In addition, the event, which will be hosted by Manchester Velodrome, will feature the family-friendly Cycle Challenge Village, where kids will have the opportunity to try out some bike challenges, participants can meet and congregate, and local bike shops and cycling stars will be on hand to answer any questions about the sport.
Martin Ashton, Corporate Manager for the NSPCC added: “ The NCC Group, the Manchester Velodrome and British Cycling are giving the NSPCC a wonderful opportunity to raise money for the services we provide children and young people in Greater Manchester. Also, and importantly, this event will raise the profile of our listening services such as Childline (0800 1111) and the NSPCC Helpline (0808 800 5000) and the need for more funding for these services to enable us to be someone to turn to for EVERY child.”
Men’s U23 Endurance National Coach, Rod Ellingworth, of British Cycling and added: "This is a unique chance for Manchester's businesses to get to know the track where the Great British cycling team recently won nine gold medals at the World Track Championships, and to discover the challenging and beautiful scenery around the city. It is also an opportunity to find out why so many people are rediscovering cycling at the moment - all while raising cash for the NSPCC's worthy cause."
