Bjarne Riis's CSC team have declared their intent on winning this year's six-stage Tour of Britain race, which starts in Glasgow on August 30. Riis is confident his team of six, which is led by Australian Luke Roberts, can sustain a serious challenge for overall victory in Westminster on September 4.

"The team is delighted to be riding the Tour of Britain, and I strongly believe that we have the correct balance to make a serious impact on this year's race," said Riis. "We have some great riders who will provide us with a whole host of talents. For now we are going to train hard so we are fully focused for the start."

Spearheading the CSC attack will be Australian Olympic and double world pursuit champion Roberts, who in his first year at the top level of pro racing has shown he can convert his track talents to the road arena. The Australian played a key role in supporting CSC team leader Ivan Basso when the Italian finished second at the Tour de France last month.

Supporting Roberts in his challenge for the yellow jersey is a line-up of riders who have all sustained a reputation for attacking. Former Norwegian champion Kurt-Asle Arvesen and 2004 Danish champion Michael Blaudzun will have to be watched by rival teams. Strong support will be provided by the experienced Lars Michaelsen, Allan Johansen and Thomas Bruun Eriksen.

T-Mobile and Quick Step are the other ProTour teams to have confirmed their participation, while, Barloworld, Comunitat Valenciana and Landbouwkrediet also offer a significant presence.
