Ed Clancy wins Blackpool Nocturne road race

Dean Downing second, Malcolm Elliott third

Team Halfords Bikehut rider Ed Clancy won the Blackpool Nocturne in front of a crowd of over 4,000 spectators at the weekend.

The cream of the UK’s riding talent raced on the course which took in some of Blackpool’s most famous landmarks. Early attacks proved irrelevant, but the burst from Rapha Condor’s Kristian House left him out the front, with a significant gap for most of the race.

National road race champion Kristian House was soon caught by a strong chase from the other UK teams, with Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy taking the glory in the final gallop, with Dean Downing (Rapha Condor) in second and Malcolm Elliott (CandiTV – Marshalls Pasta) in third.

Event director James Pope said: “Blackpool has a unique atmosphere and it’s great to bring cycle racing here that involves everybody and fits in perfectly with the Cycle Blackpool campaign.”
